The seed asked whether a genuine bridge connects the vault's Hawks-2007
(human evolution accelerated recently) and Jeffress-1948 (place theory waited
decades for anatomical confirmation) notes, neighbours at cosine 0.75. It does
not. The resemblance is rhetorical surface, not shared phenomenon.

**1. The unifying concept fits one note and excludes the other.** The only frame
that unites "a theory that waited for its confirmation" is delayed vindication —
formalized by Gunther Stent as *prematurity*: a discovery is premature "if its
implications cannot be connected by a series of simple logical steps to
canonical... knowledge." It covers correct-but-neglected ideas later vindicated
(Jeffress's delay-line circuit, confirmed 1990). It does **not** cover contested,
still-unresolved empirical claims — which is exactly what the Hawks note is (its
own frontmatter keeps it `seedling`, no rebuttal located). Tellingly, a
vault_bridge probe of the delayed-vindication frame surfaced the Jeffress and
Mayr clusters but *not* Hawks. The two temporal numbers even measure different
things: Jeffress's "four decades" is the tempo of scientific *confirmation*;
Hawks's "40,000 years / orders of magnitude" is the tempo of a natural *process*.

**2. Cosine caught the scaffolding.** Both notes share a dated scientific claim +
a large temporal quantifier + a vindication/contestation arc + history-of-science
vocabulary. Steck et al. show "cosine-similarity can yield arbitrary and
therefore meaningless `similarities'," and anisotropy (Ethayarajh 2019) inflates
cosines even between unrelated content. The 0.75 is a false friend.

Verdict: superficial. No wikilink added between the two notes.

## Why this was hop-worthy
An embedding-retrieval tool's own output became the object of study: the vault's
similarity index produced a plausible-but-empty neighbour pair, and the chain
diagnosed *why* — landing squarely on Cali's home planet (how embeddings
represent meaning).

## Further leads
- **Real bridge nearby (unlinked):** vault_bridge flagged the delayed-vindication
  meta-note ↔ "Mayr's 1954 peripatric model predicted the fossil record's gaps"
  as a genuine, unlinked neuroscience↔evolution pair — a better bridge than the
  seed's.
- **Surprise finding worth its own note:** the "beauty coefficient" B (Ke et al.,
  PNAS 2015) shows delayed recognition is a *continuum*, not a rare class — the
  romantic "premature genius" category dissolves into a tail.
- Saved hook: Jeffress's *delay lines + coincidence detection* (1948) vs.
  contemporaneous *mercury delay-line computer memory* (1940s) — a cross-time
  computation bridge, not followed.
