The two seed notes both name Edmond Halley, and the vault's [[claim-dodson-built-age-scaled-premiums-founding-equitable-life|Dodson note]] treats this as coincidence — "a different Halley contribution... not the mortality table." The bridge is real, but not the superficial "both cite a famous man." It is that **the same person made two founding acts of *inference-of-an-unobservable-from-scattered-observation* — one in demography, one in astronomy — and each became the named ancestor of a later field, and each was vindicated only after his death.**

**Claim 1 — Halley's 1693 paper founded actuarial pricing; Dodson built on that same table.** Halley "developed the first life table based on sound demographic data," from Breslau records routed via Caspar Neumann and Leibniz to the Royal Society (source_tier 2). His paper title carries the second half: "...with an attempt to ascertain the price of annuities upon lives." This is the table Dodson's age-scaled premiums descend from — making [[claim-dodson-built-age-scaled-premiums-founding-equitable-life]] a direct heir of Halley, not a stranger to him.

**Claim 2 — Halley already showed age-scaling in 1693; it was ignored for a century.** He computed annuity present values at a 6% discount by age (a 5-year-old nominee worth ~13.4 years' purchase, a 60-year-old ~7.6). Yet "the British government did not change its single-price policy after Halley's work" (Ciecka, tier 2) — it kept selling annuities at a flat 7 years' purchase regardless of age. Dodson's whole innovation was reviving Halley's own buried insight for life assurance.

**Claim 3 — both Halley proposals were posthumous.** Halley (d. 1742) addressed "those curious astronomers who (when I am dead) will have an opportunity of observing these things"; the transits were observed 1761 and 1769 ([[claim-scharf-2007-names-halley-transit-venus-as-exoplanet-transit-parallax-ancestor]] traces exoplanet parallax to that proposal). His annuity age-scaling likewise waited until Equitable Life, 1762. Same man, same epistemic move, two fields, both vindicated after he was gone.
