**Directly, the resemblance is superficial**: both are premise-check "not-X-but-Y"
corrections of a tidy single-cause story, sharing vocabulary (updating, schema /
knowledge-base, a named single cause) but no shared subject — a P3 ERP study and a 1973
UK funding report are not about the same thing. **Indirectly, a real bridge exists**, and
it is a person.

cognitive-psychology origin of "tuning/restructuring" is hiding inside the connectionist
revival, and the vault held both halves without ever naming the author who connects them.
