judgment" that multilayer perceptrons were sterile

**real, and not a pun on "intuitive"** — Simon's own cognitive theory supplies the

Minsky & Papert's sterility conjecture is a textbook low-validity case: an open
frontier question in a young field, no trained multilayer counterexample yet in

important research problem to elucidate or reject") over the then-unaffordable cost
of proof — in exactly the setting Simon's framework flags as unreliable. It stood
wrong for ~15 years.

**Claim 3 — the pattern closes on Simon himself.** The satisficing theorist made the
same class of error:
