The paper states its own data-consistency advantage directly: "the Laws of Cricket have for last 239 years been instituted by the same governing authority, the Marylebone Cricket Club."
This matters for the corroboration question specifically: the MCC is not merely the subject-matter source, it is also where one of the paper's own authors sits. The single institution that holds and could independently re-verify the underlying 268-year documentary record is not external to the author team — it is one of the eight affiliations on the paper.
