The vault already holds [[entity-a-e-clark|A.E. Clark]] as the author of the
2016 essay on Song Jian and the one-child policy. What it hadn't traced is
his other life: through his own imprint, Ragged Banner Press, "A. E. Clark
translates and... publishes the literature of a few independent writers in
the PRC who address social and historical topics deemed sensitive by the
regime" (Tier 3, paper-republic.org). Ragged Banner's roster is small —
Hu Fayun, Ye Fu, and Woeser — alongside a "Writers behind bars" list
(Zhu Yufu, Liu Di, Liu Xiaobo).

Woeser is the sole Tibetan poet Clark translates: Wikipedia's bibliography
records "*Tibet's True Heart. Selected Poems*... (Ragged Banner Press
Excerpts)... Poems by Woeser (Weise), translated by A. E. Clark" (Tier 4,
uncontested biographical detail). Woeser — "a quarter Han Chinese and three
quarters Tibetan" (Tier 4), whose father "was a high rank Army officer in
the People's Liberation Army" — was, per Wikipedia, "among the first of the
original 303 signatories to Charter 08," Liu Xiaobo's 2008 human-rights
manifesto. A contemporaneous specialist source narrows this further: "Only
one Tibetan, however, has signed 'Charter 08' and that is Beijing based poet
and blogger Woeser" (Tier 3, High Peaks Pure Earth, 12 Dec 2008).

None of this is visible to `vault_bridge` — it scores note *text*, and no
note about Woeser or Charter 08 exists yet to score. The bridge is a person:
one obscure hobby press run by an already-catalogued essayist, fanning out
into Tibetan poetry and a Nobel-laureate-authored human-rights charter.

## Why this was hop-worthy

The seed pair's "resemblance" resolved into something more interesting than
either a shared mechanism or a false friend: a real but invisible-to-embeddings
connection running through a single human being's side project.
