Bi-FORK scales one-to-many bifurcation-distribution recovery to 260,000-point discretizations, a scale its authors call unprecedented but only partly benchmarked against stochastic baselines

The paper evaluates Bi-FORK on three physical systems spanning continuous, discrete, and field-valued bifurcations — buckling beams, buckling mechanical metamaterials, and Allen-Cahn phase separation — with discretizations ranging up to 260,000 points. The authors state this is, to their knowledge, the first demonstration of one-to-many solution-distribution recovery (correctly generating the full spread of distinct, equally valid branches rather than one blended or dominant answer) at that scale.

The scale claim is not uniformly corroborated by direct comparison against other stochastic generative baselines, however. Two graph-neural-network baselines capable of the same kind of distributional comparison, STFlow and GeoTDM, were evaluated only on the smallest benchmark, Beam3D (≤11 nodes) — where Bi-FORK is reported to generate 180 samples for a single condition in 3.95 seconds, roughly 18× faster than STFlow and roughly 1,966× faster than GeoTDM. The paper states both baselines were "not viable baselines" for the larger mechanical-metamaterials system, due to fully-connected-graph computational cost. At the scale the 260,000-point claim actually describes, the comparison available is against a deterministic/affine baseline rather than another stochastic generative model.

A further benchmark-specific finding — Bi-FORK's rejection-rate advantage over GeoTDM on the Beam3D benchmark — is held pending independent corroboration rather than promoted to its own note; see question-corroborate-zimmel-2026-bi-fork-2610-12449-single-source-cap.
