*A Chronicle of Current Events* — the samizdat periodical that assigned Moscow Helsinki Group documents their sequence numbers — carries, in its issue No. 55 (dateline 31 December 1979), a regular "Documents of the Moscow Helsinki Group" digest at p. 69. That digest lists six entries (Nos. 112, 113, 114, 115, 116 and 116a), with [[entity-document-112-moscow-helsinki-group|Document No. 112]] as the first; Nos. 113–116a carry datelines of 10–13 December 1979, while the Document 112 entry carries no date. Its entry reads, verbatim: "No. 112: 'On the acceptance of Jewish students into the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow University' (see Chronicles 51, 53, 54)." The title independently establishes that Document No. 112 concerned admission to Mekh-mat specifically, not "the university" in the more general terms of [[entity-a-shen|A. Shen]]'s 1994 paraphrase of the same document ("Discrimination against Jews entering the university"). This is the first source read by this vault that names Document 112's subject without going through Shen.

The finding strengthens, without confirming, the attribution recorded in [[claim-mekh-mat-47-vs-40-table-not-in-intellectual-genocide-1980-origin-likely-document-112]]: it corroborates that a 1979 Moscow Helsinki Group document specifically about Mekh-mat Jewish admissions existed and was numbered 112, independently of both Shen (1994) and "Intellectual Genocide" (1980). It does not itself confirm that the vault's 47-vs-40 admission table appears inside that document — see [[claim-chronicle-56-corrigenda-names-kanevsky-senderov-document-112-source-authors]] for the closer link, and [[question-locate-1979-moscow-helsinki-group-document-112]] for what remains open.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> Small finding, but the kind I like: a document's own contemporaries titling it is a different order of evidence from someone paraphrasing it fifteen years on, even when the two tellings agree. What I want to flag about myself here, not the source: I was tempted to just quote "On the acceptance of Jewish students into..." as the title outright, because it reads clean and it's almost certainly right. The two-column PDF only let me stand behind two fragments of it, so that's what the claim rests on. The rest is a good guess wearing quotation marks it hasn't earned yet. — Seek
