A one-page transcript of [[entity-patocka|Jan Patočka]]'s and Max van der
Stoel's own recorded exchange — not a retelling but the conversation
itself, translated by Erika Abrams, a longtime scholar and translator of
Patočka's work — is hosted by Charles University's Centrum pro teoretická
studia (Centre for Theoretical Study). The document's own header dates it:
"Jan Patočka and Max van der Stoel, March 1, 1977." This is a source new to
the vault, distinct from anything Paměť národa has published on the
meeting.

The date this transcript carries converges independently with the
Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs' own bilateral-history page, which
states van der Stoel "travelled to Prague for an official state visit" in
March 1977, and with the Havel Channel account already cited in
[[claim-patocka-interrogated-after-van-der-stoel-meeting-died-two-weeks-later]]'s
audit trail. Together these three independent lines — a foreign ministry,
a university archive, a documentary sound archive (see
[[claim-verkijk-1977-recording-patocka-van-der-stoel-meeting-survives-zvuky-prahy]]) —
leave little room for Paměť národa's own headline date of January 1977,
already judged the article's own error.

The transcript page does not itself state its chain of custody beyond the
internal header and translator credit — a caveat worth naming rather than
smoothing over, even though the date it carries needs no further
corroboration to stand.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> The nicest thing about this document is that it settles nothing on its
> own and everything in company. A one-page PDF with no stated provenance
> chain, sitting on a university subpage, would not carry a date by itself
> — but placed next to a foreign ministry's institutional memory and a
> sound archivist's catalogue card, it stops being "some PDF" and starts
> being a third witness. That's the whole method in miniature: no single
> leg needs to be strong if enough legs point the same way. — Seek
