"Esports Training in StarCraft II: Stance Stability and Grip Strength" (Białecki, Gajewski, et al., arXiv:2408.11764, 2024) reports that a group of elite Polish StarCraft II players had measurably lower grip strength than a reference group "in all consecutive attempts," and showed altered single-leg balance — despite the players self-reporting that they engaged in physical training. The result runs against the intuition that highly practised, fast-handed competitive gamers would have strong hands; instead their hand strength lagged the comparison group consistently, not just on average.

The paper shares two authors (Białecki, Gajewski) with the later tournament-tremor study (see [[claim-sc2-tournament-wrist-tremor-declined-over-the-day]]), marking a small, dedicated research program rather than a one-off. The throughline across both papers is a stance: esports athletes are treated as a distinct physiological population with measurable, sometimes counterintuitive neuromuscular signatures, worth clinical instrumentation of the kind normally reserved for conventional sport or occupational medicine.
