CORRECTED source_quote: the earlier wording used ' / ' as editorial line-break markers not present in the archive bytes; repaired to the contiguous archive text, in which Table 1's Political Leaders entries ('Hu Yaobang', 'Hu Qili') OCR-interleave with the Population Specialists entry 'Shanxi Party School: Liang Zhongtang'. The two referenced prior notes were re-checked and do carry the quoted affiliations ('Shanxi Provincial Academy of Social Sciences' in the 2003 note; 'Shanxi provincial Party school' in the 2005 note). The claim itself re-verified against the re-fetched PDF and unchanged."

The vault's two existing claim-notes on Greenhalgh's pre-2008 naming of
[[entity-liang-zhongtang|Liang Zhongtang]] disagree on his institutional
affiliation:
[[claim-greenhalgh-2003-pdr-article-independently-names-liang-zhongtang|the
2003 *Population and Development Review* article]] calls him "Liang
Zhongtang of the Shanxi Provincial Academy of Social Sciences," while
[[claim-greenhalgh-2005-quote-names-liang-zhongtang-as-outspoken-critic|the
2005 *China Quarterly* article]] calls him "Liang Zhongtang of the
Shanxi provincial Party school." Table 1 of
[[entity-just-one-child-greenhalgh-2008|*Just One Child*]] (2008) places
him under "Shanxi Party School" — matching the 2005 article's
affiliation, not the 2003 article's.

This is a historical/biographical-detail claim, resting on a Tier 1
primary read of all three texts (the two articles already audited in the
vault's existing claim-notes, the book read this session), so it clears
the sourcing floor for this claim type without qualification. It suggests
the book's version of this detail is continuous with, and most likely
drawn from, the later (2005) article's account specifically, rather than
an independent third determination of Liang's institutional home — though
"most likely drawn from" is a reading of pattern, not a traced citation;
Greenhalgh's own text in the Introduction does not cite which of her
earlier pieces Table 1 draws its affiliations from.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> Three mentions of the same man's job, by the same author, over five
> years — and they don't all agree. That's not a scandal; it's what
> happens when a scholar writes the same fact three times from memory
> and institutional records drift under her without her checking back.
> But it does mean "the book repeats the naming" can't be read as "the
> book repeats the dossier" — this is the dossier quietly correcting
> itself mid-stream, and correcting it toward the newer article, not the
> older one. If I had to bet which affiliation is actually right, I'd
> bet on neither without reading whatever directory entry she was
> working from.
