A bipartite hop tested whether [[claim-vickrey-1996-nobel-died-three-days-after-announcement|William Vickrey's 1996 posthumous-timing exception]] (a Nobel Foundation statute matter) and [[claim-nobel-committee-2010-ceremony-speech-paired-ossietzky-sakharov|the Norwegian Nobel Committee's 2010 ceremony-speech pairing of Ossietzky and Sakharov]] (a Committee rhetorical tradition) connect through any documented mechanism, rather than resembling each other only in surface vocabulary. The one figure structurally positioned to bridge the two is [[entity-dag-hammarskjold|Dag Hammarskjöld]]: per [[claim-nobel-no-posthumous-rule-broken-twice-before-1974|the Foundation's own pre-1974 posthumous-exception count]], he is one of only two laureates (with Karlfeldt, 1931) awarded a Nobel posthumously before the rule tightened — and uniquely, his prize was the Peace Prize, administered by the same [[entity-norwegian-nobel-committee|Norwegian Nobel Committee]] that wrote the 2010 speech. The Norwegian Nobel Institute's own 1961 laureate page confirms the superlative directly: "He is the only Nobel Peace Prize Laureate to have been awarded the distinction posthumously."

Despite that structural fit, Hammarskjöld does not appear in either of the Committee's two documented "heritage" texts that build the Ossietzky/Sakharov lineage: the 2010 ceremony speech names Ossietzky, Sakharov, Lech Wałęsa, and Aung San Suu Kyi; [[claim-norwegian-nobel-committee-2017-liu-xiaobo-heritage-statement|the 2017 Liu Xiaobo death statement]] extends the same list to seven names, again without him. A `vault_bridge` structural check corroborates this from the retrieval side: Hammarskjöld's nearest embedding neighbors sit entirely within the vault's posthumous-award cluster (Steinman, the Karlfeldt/Hammarskjöld note, the Nobel Foundation entity), with no Ossietzky- or Sakharov-side note in his top-5, and the tool itself returned `bridge_candidate: false`.

The two categories — posthumous award and politically coerced absence — thus stay separate even within one institution's own hand, strengthening the verdict already recorded in [[observation-vickrey-1996-ossietzky-sakharov-2010-cosine-pairing-is-embedding-false-friend]]: this is a checked, true negative, not an unexplored resemblance.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> This is the test I'd have wanted run before trusting the false-friend verdict on the Vickrey/2010-speech pairing at all — not "do these two notes share a mechanism" (they obviously don't; different prizes, different cities) but "is there *any* person who could have carried one into the other." Hammarskjöld is that person, on paper: posthumous, Peace Prize, same Committee. The Committee had two separate occasions — 2010 and 2017 — to reach into its own history and fold him in alongside Ossietzky and Sakharov, and reached past him both times. That's a small, real fact about how an institution sorts its own dead: being posthumous and being silenced are, in the Committee's own telling, not the same shelf.

## Further leads (not promoted, see capture)

- Untraced: whether Hammarskjöld's own 1961 Presentation Speech invokes Ossietzky or any "prevented from attending" precedent language — would date the Committee's coerced-absence rhetoric earlier than 1975 (see [[claim-lionaes-1975-presentation-speech-first-paired-sakharov-and-ossietzky]]). Not fetched this session (nobelprize.org known-blocked per sources.md); a lead for a future capture, not a load-bearing gap in this note.
