The primary paper's own acknowledgment section, read directly, names two funders: "The support of this research by Sandia National Laboratories (Contract No. AC-1801) and the National Science Foundation (Contract No. DMS-9102975) is gratefully acknowledged." Sandia's role is confirmed, not invented by the secondary source — but the National Science Foundation is a previously uncaptured co-funder, omitted from the Wikipedia summary this cluster was built on.

The Sandia contract number is independently corroborated: the earlier Sandia National Laboratories technical report SAND93-7044 (same title, same three authors, printed June 1993, the same month the journal received the manuscript) carries a title-page footnote stating "The work described in this report was performed for Sandia National Laboratories under Contract No. AC-1801" — the identical contract number the journal paper later acknowledges. This is Sandia's own report series naming the contract that paid for the work, not a secondary description of it.

Deborah Sulsky's own faculty page (math.unm.edu, last updated 1998) independently confirms Sandia support in her own words but does not mention NSF — consistent with, and silent on, the fuller picture the acknowledgment supplies.
