A moderately thorough search found no case in which Amari's 1977
lateral-inhibition neural-field model
([[claim-amari-1977-neural-field-paper-rooted-in-reaction-diffusion-morphogenesis-literature]])
was applied to developmental-biology or embryonic morphogenesis. The evidence is
twofold. First, Cook, Peterson, Woldman and Terry's 2022 overview of neural
field theory — a recent, comprehensive survey explicitly tracing the lineage
from the 1970s Wilson–Cowan and Amari equations to present-day uses — lists only
neuroscience applications. Its Discussion summarizes them plainly: "some of the
key applications of NFM's were also explored such as rhythmogenesis, sleep, and
epilepsy," and its dedicated contemporary-applications section (4.4) covers only
EEG-linked phenomena — rhythm generation, sleep-stage transitions, anaesthesia,
epilepsy. No developmental-biology, embryogenesis, or morphogenesis application
appears anywhere in the review's applications material. Second, a review of
Turing pattern formation in zebrafish skin — a canonical contemporary
developmental-biology Turing topic (PMC8580470, Tier 3, used only to support an
absence) — contains no mention of Amari or neural-field theory in its
background, introduction, or references.

The finding is bounded: **`[unverified — a moderately thorough search found no
evidence that Amari's 1977 work was ever applied to developmental-biology /
embryonic morphogenesis; this is absence of evidence, not proof of nonexistence,
and does not rule out an obscure, uncited, or non-English-language application
outside the indexed literature this search reached]`.** The note stays
`seedling` accordingly.

What *is* affirmatively established is the inverse and the adjacent: the
reaction-diffusion literature fed *into* Amari's paper at its origin (same note
as above), and the Turing-style analytical toolkit later reached the
Amari-family formalism but toward neuroscience
([[claim-ermentrout-cowan-1979-applied-neural-field-bifurcation-to-visual-hallucinations]]),
not morphogenesis. This extends to Amari's *1977* neural-field work the same
negative pattern already found for his *1972* associative-memory model
