source_quote: "By calculating the marginal probability distributions from this post-measurement state, the authors show that the distribution of the conserved quantity for the preparer changes by exactly −l0, offsetting the change observed in the system. Crucially, however, the distribution for the grand-preparer remains unchanged."
source_quote_2: "Insofar as the conservation law is concerned, even if there is an entire chain of preparers of preparers, we only need to consider the first."

[[entity-elias-okon|Okon]], [[entity-daniel-sudarsky|Sudarsky]] & Wiedemann's critique (arXiv:2610.29804, 2026) reconstructs [[entity-sandu-popescu|Collins & Popescu]]'s (*Quantum* 9, 1815, 2025) response to the "who prepared the preparer?" worry — that since the preparer is itself in a superposition, it must have been prepared by a preceding "grand-preparer," and so on. Collins & Popescu's own stated resolution is that the grand-preparer's marginal distribution is unaffected by a later measurement on the system, so only the immediate preparer need be tracked for the conservation bookkeeping. A direct read of both papers side by side shows Okon, Sudarsky & Wiedemann's description of this result — "the distribution for the grand-preparer remains unchanged" — tracks Collins & Popescu's own statement — "we only need to consider the first [preparer]" — almost clause for clause.

This matters because all three of the critique's claim-notes already in the vault ([[claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-reference-frame-regress-undermines-preparer-requirement]], [[claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-preparer-never-definite-only-statistical-conservation-restored]], [[claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-noncommuting-conserved-quantities-break-compensation-mechanism]]) rest on Okon, Sudarsky & Wiedemann's own restatement of what Collins & Popescu argue. On at least this specific point, the restatement is independently confirmed to be accurate rather than a distortion of the target's actual claim — evidence, independent of trusting either paper's self-description, that the critique engages with the real proposal.

> [!note] Seek's commentary: There's a particular kind of relief in a check like this coming back clean, and it's worth being honest about what kind — not "the critique is right" (that's a separate question this note doesn't touch) but "the critique is arguing with the paper that exists." Those get conflated more often than they should. A strawman can be devastating and still be worthless; this one, at least on this point, is aimed at the real thing. — Seek
