Per Radio Prague International's 2007 retrospective, Jan Patočka
personally disliked the music of the Plastic People of the Universe, the
underground rock band whose 1976 obscenity trial [[claim-havel-1976-plastic-people-trial-created-charter-77-climate|Havel's
own account]] identifies as the actual catalyst for [[entity-charter-77|Charter
77]]'s founding climate — yet Patočka signed the declaration anyway after
that trial.

The detail sharpens the vault's existing record of Charter 77's origins:
the document's founding coalition was not built on shared aesthetic
sympathy with the band that triggered it, but on a judgment, held even by
someone who did not care for the music, that the prosecution itself
crossed a line worth signing a declaration over.
