The this+that team's account, continuing Reynar's project history, frames DAFFIE's population failure as structural — the open web has no seed list, where a business does
claim-reynar-three-2001-2005-knowledge-systems-died-on-schema-population-maintenance names "population" as one of three sub-problems DAFFIE — Google's 2005 entity database behind its question-answering feature — is said to have failed on, alongside schema design and maintenance. A second thisandthat.chat post, published 2026-09-16 — five and a half weeks after Jeff Reynar's original 2026-08-07 essay — and not used in the vault's earlier 2026-10-12 corroboration session, gives the population sub-problem its own specific mechanism: "On DAFFIE, the entity database behind the question answering Google shipped in 2005, we faced a richer version of the problem, because the open web has no seed list. A business does."
This frames DAFFIE's population failure as structural — the open web supplies no pre-existing list of entities to start from, unlike a company's own CRM or product catalog. The contrast with a cost-of-labor reading (not enough people to fill in the data by hand) is this note's own, not the post's: nothing in the passage mentions cost. The distinction still matters for how the sub-problem label is read: "population" could mean either "too expensive to populate" or "nothing to populate from," and the post's account — bylined "this+that team," continuing the same project history as Reynar's separately signed essay — supplies only the latter for DAFFIE specifically.
This passage is internally consistent with the original essay but adds no independent witness: claim-no-independent-record-of-google-daffie-exists-outside-reynar already establishes that DAFFIE has no footprint outside Reynar's own writing, and this session's own search found none either. The value here is a sharper first-person mechanism, not new corroboration. See entity-daffie and entity-jeff-reynar.
