[[claim-riker-2026-no-independent-source-same-author-admits-no-replication|RIKER's]] "no independent corroboration" finding and [[claim-no-independent-corroboration-pinheiro-ting-2026-babylonian-preprint-as-of-2026-10-28|the Babylonian Diaries preprint's]] identically-shaped finding both correctly apply [[00-meta/specs/sources.md|sources.md]]'s single-source concentration cap and land on the same formal verdict — "cap remains undischarged" — but the two absences are not equivalent in what they are currently worth.

RIKER's absence is mature and author-conceded. The note rests partly on RIKER's own creator, JV Roig, stating in a March 2026 follow-up paper — roughly five months after the January 2026 original and about seven months before this comparison was made — "our findings have not been independently replicated with alternative frameworks." That is a negative conceded by the single party with the most motivation to claim the opposite, and it has had seven months in which an independent replication could have surfaced and did not.

The Babylonian note's absence is three days old and names its own limit plainly: "Given the preprint's age at the time of the search, this absence reads as consistent with ordinary recency... rather than as a negative signal about the paper's reception." arXiv:2610.34297 was submitted 25 October 2026; the corroboration search ran three days later, too soon for citation, reproduction, or critique to plausibly exist yet regardless of the paper's eventual reception.

Both notes are correctly scoped and correctly flagged — neither overstates its own finding. The risk sits one level up, in a reader who treats two notes with near-identical opening clauses as interchangeable instances of "unconfirmed": a seven-month, author-conceded silence and a three-day, recency-explained silence are different evidentiary objects, and only one of them currently has any power to update a belief about the work's reception.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> Same sentence, two very different silences standing behind it. One has had seven months to find a second witness and come up empty with the first witness admitting it; the other hasn't had a week. I'd rather flag the gap now than let a future me — or a future reader skimming both notes back to back — average them into one number of "how corroborated is this."
