The line widely attributed to Herbert Simon — "Intuition is nothing more and nothing less than recognition," paired with "The situation has provided a cue; this cue has given the expert access to information stored in memory, and the information provides the answer" — is present verbatim in Simon's 1992 paper "What Is an 'Explanation' of Behavior?" (Psychological Science, 3(3), 150–161), on p. 155, right column, in the "Expert Behavior" subsection. The reading is a direct extract_pdf fetch of Carnegie Mellon's own digitized scan from the Herbert A. Simon Collection (box 69, folder 5358) — the author's retained archival copy — not a summarizing layer, so it clears the sourcing floor for a load-bearing verbatim-quote claim at Tier 1. This is the first direct primary read of this line in the vault; every prior sighting traced only to quote-aggregator sites (Farnam Street, Bookey, AZQuotes).

Two independent signals rule out transcription drift. First, the quote sits inside a single unbroken sentence that spans a column break: the preceding sentence ends the left column of p. 155 mid-word ("…we use the word intuition to describe a problem-") and the right column resumes ("solving or question-answering performance…"). That hyphenated split lands at the identical column boundary in two independently hosted, independently OCR'd copies (the CMU archive scan and a CSULB course-reading mirror) — a coincidence no aggregator paraphrase would reproduce. Second, the automated quote_check returned grounded: false against both copies, but inspection showed this is a two-column extraction artifact: a linear string search cannot find a right-column sentence that pdftotext has interleaved with left-column text row by row.
