A few paragraphs after introducing [[entity-song-jian|Song Jian]]'s 1995
self-credit line, Susan Greenhalgh writes (p. 259): "After 1980 his articles
would sometimes note the praise his work had earned from China's leaders and
famous foreign specialists." Her footnote 22 supporting that sentence names
three works together: "Song Jian, 'Some developments in mathematical
demography and their application to the People's Republic of China,'
*Theoretical Population Biology*, Vol. 22 (1982), pp. 382–83; Song Jian,
'Systems science and China's economic reforms'; Song Jian, 'System science
and policy-making.'" The essay carrying the self-credit line —
[[claim-greenhalgh-footnote-pins-song-jian-1995-essay-citation|pinned
elsewhere to a specific 1999 collected-papers citation]] — is the third of
these three, grouped by Greenhalgh with a 1982 English-language demography
article and a 1985 essay on systems science and China's economic reforms.

This situates the self-credit passage
([[claim-song-jian-self-credited-1980-projections-triggered-one-child-policy]])
within a documented pattern in Song's own post-1980 writing — retrospective
pieces that note external validation of his work — rather than as an
isolated claim in a single essay. A separate footnote in the same paper
(footnote 4, p. 254) also cites the 1995 essay, at p. 534, glossing Chinese
usage of the term "control theory science" for cybernetics — three pages
before the self-credit line at p. 537, consistent with an essay that opens
with general systems-science terminology before turning to the
population-policy case. Greenhalgh's footnote 14 (p. 257) cites a further,
unread piece in the same 1999 volume: Huang Shouzeng, "Song Jian jianli"
("Brief biography of Song Jian"), pp. 744–752 — a biographical sketch
alongside Song's own retrospective essays, not itself examined here.
