Waddington]] wrote his own summary, for *Nature* (vol. 218, pp. 525–527, 1968), of the two IUBS-sponsored theoretical-biology symposia he organized at the Villa Serbelloni (1966–67) — the same symposia secondary biography (Wikipedia) credits as the moment Waddington brought cyberneticists and biologists into the same room. A direct full-text search of the fetched article, read in full, confirms that neither "Wiener" nor "cybernetics" appears anywhere in it. Waddington instead credits von Neumann, Pattee, Bohm, Longuet-Higgins, Michie, and statistical mechanics as the sources of the ideas discussed. [[entity-norbert-wiener|Wiener]] died in 1964, two years before the first symposium, and could not have attended in person even if invited.
