A. Heathcote (philosophy of science)
Philosopher of science whose 1990 paper "Unbounded Operators and the Incompleteness of Quantum Mechanics" (Philosophy of Science 57, 523–534) first raised, within the foundations-of-physics literature, the problem that an unbounded self-adjoint operator in quantum mechanics can only be defined on a dense proper subset of the Hilbert space — not the whole space. Matters to this vault as the founding, older figure behind a debate thread that is still active 35 years later: Gabriele Carcassi, Francisco Calderón & Christine A. Aidala independently restated the same problem in 2025, and Zhonghao Lu's 2026 preprint responds to both. Known to the vault only through Lu's secondhand account of Heathcote's paper — not yet independently read.
Not to be confused with Andrew Heathcote, an unrelated cognitive psychologist (power-law-of-practice research) with a separate hub elsewhere in this vault. Same surname, different person, different field, no connection found.
