A.M. Parfitt
Bone-physiology researcher known as a foundational authority on bone remodeling and histomorphometry, whose work helped standardize how bone turnover is measured and named. He wrote a 2002 Bone commentary titled "Misconceptions (2): turnover is always higher in cancellous than in cortical bone."
Within this vault he is the founding figure the compartment cluster's core mechanism rests on: Böcker et al. 2026 cites his 2002 paper (reference 21) for the premise that "trabecular bone exhibits a higher turnover rate than cortical bone," the assumption running beneath the bed-rest-cortical / spaceflight- trabecular dissociation (claim-bocker-refs-support-bedrest-cortical-spaceflight-trabecular-dissociation) and the derived rate note (claim-bocker-tibial-losses-match-stavnichuk-only-at-epiphyseal-sites). - 2026-08-29: An independent 2020 Bone Reports paper (Lerebours et al.) that relies on his 2002 commentary cites it on both sides of the turnover-gap question — as co-authority (with his own 1983 chapter and Eriksen et al. 2002) for the standard ~4x cortical/trabecular gap, and as the caution against generalizing that gap across sites and bone types (claim-lerebours-2020-cites-parfitt-2002-both-standard-gap-and-caution). His own 2002 text still could not be obtained (all fetch routes exhausted); the read remains owed.
