Russian and Soviet naval engineer, applied mathematician, and full member of
the Academy of Sciences (1863–1945), known for foundational work on ship
theory and for building early mechanical devices to solve the differential
equations that naval and structural engineering kept generating faster than
hand calculation could handle. Vault-relevant as the direct engineering
ancestor of [[entity-vladimir-lukyanov|Vladimir Lukyanov's]]
[[claim-lukyanov-water-integrator-1936-hydraulic-differential-equation-solver|1936 hydraulic integrator]]:
around 1910 — a quarter-century earlier — Krylov built a mechanical analog
"differential integrator" for solving fourth-order ordinary differential
equations, a device Lukyanov is reported to have studied directly before
designing his own water-based solver.
