Adhémar Esmein
French legal historian (Professor, Faculty of Law of Paris) whose A History of Continental Criminal Procedure, with Special Reference to France (French original 1882; English translation by John Simpson, 1913) is a standard English-language account of the ancien régime system of legal proofs. Matters to this vault as the source of its first Tier-1, verbatim-quoted statement of the "two half-proofs cannot make a full proof" doctrine — preserved in his Appendix B via the 18th-century jurist Poullain du Parc — reached independently of the Tier-3/4 Catholic Encyclopedia entry the vault had relied on until this session.
