Early-14th-century Maghrebi mathematician (fl. early 1300s, from Miṣrāta),
one of Ibn al-Banna's own students, who in 1305 wrote *al-Lubāb*, the
earliest surviving commentary on Ibn al-Banna's *Talkhīṣ aʿmāl al-ḥisāb* —
composed during the master's own lifetime, making it the closest
primary-adjacent source to Ibn al-Banna's arithmetic that survives. Matters
to this vault as the subject of the single Tier 1 source found that
purpose-built an inventory of the *Talkhīṣ* tradition's actual contents
(Abdeljaouad & Oaks 2013) — a 44-page catalogue of what al-Hawārī's
commentary adds, operation by operation, that never mentions lattice,
gelosia, or shabakh multiplication, the strongest evidence yet against
Wikipedia's attribution of the method to Ibn al-Banna's own text. See
