Alan Turing
British mathematician (1912–1954) and WWII codebreaker at Bletchley Park who, working with statistician I. J. Good in Hut 8, originated the method for estimating the probability mass of never-yet-observed events later published by Good as Good-Turing frequency estimation. He recurs in this vault along two genuinely unrelated axes: the cryptanalytic root of the statistics-of-the-unseen cluster, and — independently, decades of unrelated citation apart — as the reaction-diffusion source Amari's 1977 neural-field paper cites for pattern formation (his 1952 "The Chemical Basis of Morphogenesis"). Two different fields reaching for two different pieces of his work is itself part of why he earns a hub rather than a passing mention.
