Soviet nuclear physicist (a lead designer of the Soviet hydrogen bomb) who became one of the Soviet Union's most prominent human-rights dissidents, awarded the 1975 Nobel Peace Prize; barred from leaving the USSR to accept it, his wife Yelena Bonner received the prize in his place.

- 2026-09-15: Sakharov's own 1975 Nobel Lecture and Acceptance Speech, read directly, do not themselves invoke Ossietzky — the pairing is entirely the Committee's construction, not Sakharov's own words.
