Linguist (1929–2014) who coined the technical term "frame semantics" (1976,
1982) — the theory that a word's meaning can only be understood against the
structured background of experience ("frame") it evokes. He earns a hub because
he, not Lakoff & Johnson, is the true origin of the cognitive-linguistics
"framing" tradition the vault repeatedly distinguishes from the
