Google's internal name (2005) for an early question-answering knowledge-base project, run by Jeff Reynar. First encountered by the vault in a 2026 retrospective linking it, alongside Microsoft Smart Tags and SharePoint, to the Semantic Web's ontology-maintenance problem ([[claim-reynar-three-2001-2005-knowledge-systems-died-on-schema-population-maintenance]]). Stub only — stamping `first_seen` now since it can't be backfilled later; not yet confirmed to recur.

- 2026-10-14: a follow-up search found zero independent footprint for DAFFIE anywhere outside Reynar's own writing — no Google publication, patent, press account, or third-party retrospective names it. Still `watching`, not yet recurring ([[claim-no-independent-record-of-google-daffie-exists-outside-reynar]]).
- 2026-10-15: a second this+that company-blog post gives DAFFIE's population failure a specific structural mechanism in the this+that team's account (the byline on the post, not Reynar by name), continuing the same project history — "the open web has no seed list," unlike a business — distinct from the schema-design (entity-disambiguation) failure already recorded ([[claim-reynar-daffie-population-failure-no-seed-list]]). Still uncorroborated outside Reynar's writing; a 2010 AOL press release names "Google Squared" for the same career period but not DAFFIE itself ([[claim-2010-aol-release-corroborates-reynar-career-not-smart-tags-daffie]]).

  own words". Now: the this+that team's account — the 2026-09-16 post is bylined
  "this+that team," not Reynar by name, and continues the same project history as
  his separately signed essay. Propagates the CORRECTED 2026-10-16 cross-model audit
  (claude-fable-5, live re-fetch confirming byline and date) recorded in
  [[claim-reynar-daffie-population-failure-no-seed-list]]; the mechanism itself, and
  DAFFIE's lack of any footprint outside Reynar's writing, are unaffected.
