American mathematician and statistician (1919–2010) — the first Black tenured professor at UC Berkeley and the first Black member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences — whose 1956 approachability theorem later proved provably equivalent to no-regret online learning, the mathematics NVIDIA's Blackwell GPU architecture is named for.

Matters to this vault as a recurring RAND-era bridge figure: his own 2002–2003 oral history, read in full for the first time this session, documents an extensive RAND social network — Abe Girshick, Richard Bellman, Jimmie Savage, Lloyd and Marian Shapley, Julia Robinson, Olaf Helmer, Alex Mood, Henri Bohnenblust, and Seymour Sherman — across three summers between 1948 and 1950, but never mentions Rufus Isaacs or John Nash, complicating a colleague-roster claim the vault had previously only held via secondary sources.
