Derek Lovley
Microbiologist (University of Massachusetts Amherst) who originated the conductive-pili ("e-pili") model of Geobacter nanowires — the proposal, from Reguera et al. (Nature, 2005), that PilA-based type-IV pili carry electrons over long range for extracellular electron transfer. Matters to this vault as one pole of an active scientific-priority dispute: the model he founded was later overturned structurally by his former lineage-member Nikhil Malvankar, and Lovley continued to defend e-pili in print as of 2022, making this a clean case of an origin-model author outlasting his own model in the literature.
