Technology-forecasting economist credited by Lafond, Bailey, Bakker, Rebois,
Zadourian, McSharry & Farmer (2017) with first proving, in 1979, the identity
that Wright's Law (cost falls per cumulative-production doubling) and Moore's
Law (cost falls per unit calendar time) collapse into the same curve whenever
cumulative production grows exponentially. The vault uses that identity as a
diagnostic — not just a convenience — for whether a given technology's moat
belongs on the production-volume axis or the calendar-time axis, most sharply
in the EUV-mirror case, where the identity's own precondition fails. The
vault knows him only secondhand so far, through Lafond et al.'s citation; his
own 1979 paper is unread.
