Statistician at the Universität Augsburg, known in his own field for work on apportionment methods and optimal design, who as Corresponding Editor of *The IMS Bulletin* solicited and published [[entity-richard-mcpeters|Richard McPeters]]'s 1990 letter recounting NASA's internal 1984 investigation of the Antarctic ozone anomaly. That correspondence — preserved on Pukelsheim's own university page — is the primary record this vault's ozone-hole myth-correction ultimately traces to, 27 years before a popular science blog (RealClimate, 2017) arrived independently at a compatible but less precise account, apparently without citing him.
