Guy Knickerbocker

Graduate student in William Kouwenhoven's Johns Hopkins defibrillator program, credited with the incidental observation that redirected the team toward manual chest compression, and third-listed co-author on Kouwenhoven, Jude & Knickerbocker's foundational 1960 JAMA paper. He matters to the vault beyond the citation: his own 2012 first-person account of the discovery (a JEMS interview) describes a materially different physical circumstance than the vault's existing NIST-sourced retelling — deliberate manual compression during an equipment delay, not incidental paddle-weight pressure — an unresolved contradiction the vault now tracks explicitly rather than silently reconciling.
