The name Kaushik, Paul & Yuille (Johns Hopkins CCVL lab) coin for their own planar hexagonal rendering primitive, introduced in "Honeycomb-Surfels: Compact Hexagonal Primitives for Efficient Scene Rendering and Reconstruction" (arXiv:2610.37668, submitted 2026-10-27). Watching stub, stamped at first appearance in the vault — the term is one day old at `first_seen` and has no independent adoption yet.

- 2026-10-29: a dedicated corroboration search found no independent citation, reproduction, or third-party evaluation of Hexels — the authors' own project page repeats the paper's self-reported figures and links no release of the training/benchmark pipeline ([[claim-hexels-no-independent-corroboration-found-as-of-2026-10-29]]). Separately, the two baselines Hexels measures itself against, 2D Gaussian Splatting and Triangle Splatting, have themselves cleared independent peer review — a materially stronger evidentiary status than Hexels' own still-unrefereed preprint ([[claim-hexels-2dgs-triangle-splatting-baselines-peer-reviewed-hexels-is-not]]).
