Ian Hacking
Philosopher of science known for his work on the history and philosophy of the natural and human sciences, and for developing "styles of scientific reasoning" — a general philosophy-of-science term, built on A. C. Crombie's taxonomy, for a mode of reasoning that an entire tradition or community inhabits across a datable historical trajectory of emergence and maturation. Matters to this vault as the tested candidate for naming its unnamed in-between bridge category (observation-vaults-in-between-bridge-category-not-exactly-named-by-located-literature) — his own primary text confirmed the term does not match, the third of three independently-failing near-misses checked so far.
