Maghrebi mathematician (ca. 1437–1513) two commentarial generations removed
from Ibn al-Banna, author of *The Craving of the Calculators* (a commentary
on Ibn al-Banna's *Talkhīṣ aʿmāl al-ḥisāb*) and then *The Desire of the
Students for an Explanation of the Calculator's Craving* (his own commentary
on that commentary). Matters to this vault as the actual named author whose
manuscript carries the earliest gelosia-grid multiplication examples located
in this tradition — per Swetz/MAA's captioned World Digital
Library/Library of Congress images — roughly two centuries after Ibn
al-Banna's own *Talkhīṣ*, making him a stronger candidate than Ibn al-Banna
himself for "first Arabic attestation" of the method. See
