Philosophy professor (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) who has argued
twice, independently, that the standard history of connectionism's
antagonistic relationship with symbolic AI is "highly selective, partial
and in certain respects, down right misleading" — a 1997 course-page essay
("A Revisionist History of Connectionism") and a peer-reviewed 2019 article
("The Curious Case of Connectionism," *Open Philosophy* 2, pp. 190–205).
Matters to this vault as one of two independent secondary voices (alongside
[[entity-yuxi-liu|Yuxi Liu]]) checked for whether the published literature
has already combined [[entity-hubert-dreyfus|Dreyfus]] and Stuart Dreyfus's
1988 "vindicated, not refuted" account with [[entity-mikel-olazaran|Olazaran]]'s
1993 SRI-funding account — Berkeley cites Dreyfus & Dreyfus (1988) directly
in both pieces as representative of the "standard history," but cites
Olazaran in neither, running his correction instead through Minsky's own
continued network research and personal testimony.
