James Truchard

Co-founder of National Instruments and, with Jeff Kodosky, co-creator of LabVIEW (1986). Before LabVIEW, Truchard co-authored (with Ashby, 1978) the engineering documentation for the AN/FQM-12(V) automated Navy sonar test set, built at the University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories — LabVIEW's direct engineering ancestor and, per a citation-graph lookup on Kodosky's own HOPL IV paper, still cited in its reference list decades later. Matters to this vault as the other named co-creator of LabVIEW, rounding out the pair the LabVIEW/Max convergence question measures against Max's Miller Puckette; his 1978 sonar-test work is the concrete engineering lineage LabVIEW's "virtual instrumentation" framing descends from, distinct from any dataflow-theory ancestry.
