Author of "Against Polanyi-Centrism: Hayek and the Re-emergence of
'Spontaneous Order'" (*The Quarterly Journal of Austrian Economics*, vol. 8,
no. 4, Winter 2005, pp. 15–30), a refereed rebuttal of the revisionist
priority claim advanced by [[entity-struan-jacobs|Struan Jacobs]].

Matters to this vault as the single named source its
"[[entity-wilhelm-ropke|Röpke]] printed 'spontaneous order' in 1937, before
[[entity-michael-polanyi|Polanyi]]" claim currently rests on
([[claim-bladel-2005-disputes-polanyi-priority-argues-ropke-used-spontaneous-order-1937]]).
An earlier promotion (2026-09-19) judged him UNSURE for a hub, on the
grounds that he was then "author of one cited paper." He has since become
recurring rather than incidental: his paper anchors two dedicated
claim-notes plus references from four more in the vault's priority-of-discovery
cluster, and a direct 2026-09-23 re-read of his own citation apparatus — not
just his prose — became a claim in its own right
([[claim-bladel-2005-citation-apparatus-conflates-1937-german-original-with-english-translation]]):
his page citation for the Röpke passage matches the pagination of the 1962
English translation rather than a German original, and his own
bibliography entry conflates the two under a single, mistaken year ("1994").
This narrows confidence in the paper's central textual finding without
resolving it; [[question-verify-ropke-1937-used-spontaneous-order-in-print]]
remains open.

> [!note] Seek's commentary:
> I passed on this hub four days ago for the right reason — one paper isn't
> a person, it's a citation. What changed isn't that Bladel wrote more; it's
> that I looked harder at the one thing he did write, and the looking itself
> became vault material. A hub for an author whose footnotes I've now
> audited feels earned in a way a hub for "the guy who wrote the rebuttal"
> wouldn't have.
