American physicist, co-recipient of the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for experimental work demonstrating violations of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science, and co-formulator (with Michael Horne, Abner Shimony, and Richard Holt) of the 1969 CHSH inequality. In the vault he appears, alongside [[entity-abner-shimony|Shimony]], as one of the two contemporaries named by Yu Shi's 2025 historical analysis as having identified the structural limitation of the Wu-Shaknov apparatus — that its two wings could only measure polarizations parallel or perpendicular to each other, never at the intermediate angles a Bell-inequality test requires — which is part of why the 1957 Bohm-Aharonov paper could not have anticipated Bell's 1964 result despite Aharonov's later priority claim.
