Austrian-British philosopher of science (1902–1994), best known for advancing
*falsifiability* as the criterion of demarcation between empirical science and
non-science, and for the political work *The Open Society and Its Enemies*
(1945). He held a long tenure at the London School of Economics and was
knighted in 1965.

Matters to this vault across two otherwise-separate clusters. In analytic
tradecraft, his falsification principle is the stated grounding of Richards
Heuer's Analysis of Competing Hypotheses — the vault's first encounter with him

In political-economy history he attended the 1947 founding meeting of Hayek's
Mont Pelerin Society, having objected beforehand that its guest list was too
ideologically uniform to be useful

The vault checked whether Popper — a second Central-European philosopher of
science in that 1947 room alongside [[entity-michael-polanyi|Michael Polanyi]]
— bridges the Polanyi clusters, and found he does not: same meeting, separate
threads. Note too that Polanyi's *Logic of Liberty* preface explicitly
contrasts his own theory of liberty against Popper's coinage ("A free society
is not an Open Society...").
