L.E.J. Brouwer

Dutch mathematician (1881–1966), founder of mathematical intuitionism and author of the fixed-point theorem that bears his name — the early-20th-century topological result stating that any continuous function mapping a compact convex set into itself has at least one fixed point. In this vault he is the namesake of the theorem David Gale's 1979 paper proves combinatorially equivalent to the children's board game Hex: Brouwer's result is the older, foundational half of that equivalence, the one Hex is measured against rather than the reverse.
