Physicist whose 1938 JOSA paper, "Investigations on the intrinsic properties of the color domain" (*JOSA* 28(3), 63–85), is cited by Bujack et al. (2025) as the earliest identified precedent for distinguishing straight lines from geodesic (shortest) paths in color space — i.e., recognizing that perceptual color space is not flat. Predates [[entity-deane-b-judd|Judd (1968)]] by three decades and is, on the vault's current evidence, the earliest source in the color-curvature lineage that eventually runs through Urban et al. (2007) to Ahrens et al. (2024). Known to the vault so far only via citation; his own 1938 paper has not yet been read directly.
