Author of *Equitable Assurances: The Story of Life Assurance in the Experience of the Equitable Life Assurance Society, 1762–1962* (1962) — the institutional history of the mutual assurance society founded on Dodson's age-scaled premium work, and named repeatedly across this vault's Amicable Society research cluster as the strongest still-unread primary-adjacent source for the founding-era societies' internal mechanics. No accessible full text has been located online as of 2026-07-25, and Ogborn is now one of only two sources in this cluster that remain **genuinely** access-blocked (the other being Clark 1999) — the other leads once filed alongside them turned out to be free, or blocked by a WAF rather than a licence. The Amicable dividend question it was held for is now answered without it, from Walford 1885 ([[claim-amicable-society-1706-fixed-dividend-fund-divided-equally-per-death]]). The Dodson-causation question it was then held for was also answered without it, on 2026-07-26, and in a way that lowers this book's expected value: the ODNB's entry on Dodson lists Ogborn as its own first source and *still* reports the rejection-to-design causation as hearsay ("It was said"), while the freely-hosted *Journal of the Institute of Actuaries* review of Ogborn summarizes his account of Dodson's motivation without mentioning the Amicable at all ([[claim-dodson-rejection-causation-is-reported-tradition-not-documented]]). Whatever Ogborn says, it did not persuade his most careful reader to assert the link. He remains directly unread — HathiTrust holds the book (catalog 001741155) behind a Cloudflare challenge that no institutional IP clears — but no open question now depends on him.
