M. L. Barton was a Staff Computational Scientist in Intel's Software Technology Lab, and co-author (with [[entity-h-p-sharangpani|H. P. Sharangpani]]) of Intel's own 1994 internal account of the Pentium floating-point division defect — the numerical-analysis half of a pairing between a chip-architecture specialist and a computational scientist.

In this vault, Sharangpani & Barton 1994 is the primary document underneath the confirmed cause of the [[claim-pentium-fdiv-bug-five-missing-srt-lookup-table-entries|Pentium FDIV bug]], including its own probability-of-failure calculations and average-user risk estimate.
