Marquis de Condorcet
Enlightenment mathematician and philosophe (1743–1794) who proved, in his 1785 Essai sur l'application de l'analyse à la probabilité des décisions rendues à la pluralité des voix, the jury theorem that bears his name: majority-vote accuracy rises with group size, provided voters decide independently. He matters to this vault as the uncredited accuracy-theoretic ancestor behind two and a half centuries of "weight the votes and combine them" schemes, from 2025 RAG fusion to 2024 LLM-ensemble papers, none of which trace their lineage back to him explicitly. He was later a French Revolution politician; he went into hiding after a 1793 arrest warrant, was captured in 1794, and died in prison two days later — the cause of death is contested in the historical record and not treated as settled here.

- 2026-08-10: A direct reference-list check found RA-RAG's 2025 "weighted majority voting" cites no prior weighted-majority literature at all — Condorcet included — and that a second, wholly unrelated 1989 algorithm (Littlestone & Warmuth) shares the exact phrase with a real, separately-cited lineage into AdaBoost. Confirms this page's "none of them trace their lineage back to him explicitly" and shows the phrase's reach is wider, and more fractured, than the vault had recorded. - 2026-08-13: The vault now knows what RA-RAG's mechanism actually descends from, one more citation hop past the 2026-08-10 absence-check: not Condorcet, but a 1979 clinical-medicine paper (Dawid & Skene) reconciling disagreeing anaesthetists, via a 2014 crowdsourcing paper that names it directly. Condorcet remains the uncredited theoretical ancestor of "weight the votes" generally, but this specific 2025 mechanism has a different, real, named lineage that runs nowhere near him.
