Yong Cai) of "Challenging Myths About China's One-Child Policy" (*The
China Journal*, No. 74, 2015) — a peer-reviewed essay correcting several
widely repeated claims about the policy's origins and demographic
effects, including the "400 million births prevented" figure and the
timing of China's fertility decline.

  one-child policy cite Greenhalgh's 2008 book and Liang's 2014 book plus
