French philosopher and sociologist. His 1925 *Les cadres sociaux de la
mémoire* ("The Social Frameworks of Memory") introduced the idea of
collective memory: that individual remembering is reconstructed in the
present through social frameworks, never a private, isolated recording. The
vault treats him as the shared theoretical ancestor of two branches it
otherwise keeps separate — [[entity-alessandro-portelli|Portelli's]]
oral-history method and the interpretive wing of organizational-forgetting
studies (Foroughi & Al-Amoudi) — with no lineage into the econometric
[[entity-organizational-forgetting|organizational forgetting]] tradition
(Argote/Benkard), which descends from production economics instead. Died in
Buchenwald in 1945. First flagged as a saved "person-behind-the-thing" hook
on 2026-07-09, held for a future chain until this one.
